You Win Some You Lose Some

6 Days, 5 Hundred Dollars, 4 States, 3 Kids, 2 Auctions, and 1 Big Honkin' Trailer!

Y'all we had a blast!  From great family visits, to yummy food, to the spa day, to the lake trip, to AMAZING shopping and pickin' adventures, it was all wonderful!  This morning after reading my devo I thanked God for the favor in my life.  I am so blessed!

Ok, first things first, I need to get something off my chest.  I lied.  Not intentionally, but I did.  You see that 5 up there?  Well, let's just say I busted that wide open!  ;)  The deals were too good to pass up!!!!   I honestly think we shopped every single day we were there but we saved the best for last.  The auctions on Monday!  Oh MY!  The outdoor auction started at 10am.  It is hundreds and hundreds of items lined up in rows.  The auctioneer rides along the aisles in some type of motorized contraption with a microphone.  And just like my first visit, by the time it was over they knew me, Leah, and our number.  Below is a video my Uncle Tim did of us in action.

Are you laughing as hard as I am right now?  My face is hilarious!  So serious!  It is a shame there is not video of me bidding on my amber lamp.  I spotted this beauty at 9:30 and knew it had to be mine.  When it got close to time for them to auction it, I planted myself right behind this piece of glass glory and didn't move.  At one point, Leah whispered "you might not want to stand too close".  I couldn't move.  Needless to say, I am now it's proud owner.  I may have even done a little happy dance when the lady quit bidding and I realized I got it!  Don't worry I will replace the lampshade.

 Am I pointing my toe?

Am I pointing my toe?

I couldn't tell you all the "frenzy finds" we got at the morning auction but it was two truck loads full.  None of it would have happened without my Dad, my uncle Tim, and their friend Michael Brandis.  At this auction, when you win a bid you immediately take the item or items to your vehicle.  If Leah and I had to do that, can you imagine what we would have missed during the transport?  A big thanks to these men for hauling our treasures for 4 hours in the hot sun.  I was nice enough to buy 2 rockers half way through so they could sit and watch us.  ;)  Oh and we can't forget to thank my aunt and step mom for watching the kiddos during all of this!

The outside auction ended at 2pm.  We were only 30 minutes from dad's so we decided to go home, shower, and return at 6pm for the indoor auction.  This is when most of the furniture is sold.  We started off slow.  The first part didn't really have much we were interested in and for a moment we thought maybe we should have stayed home.  Until.....it happened.  You know - the "shopping frenzy".  And once again, we walked away with 2 truck loads of stuff.  Our last purchase of the day was this GORGEOUS 4 piece bedroom suit.  Look at the detail.  The claw feet make me giddy!  You can find this and lots more goodies at our booth at Eastbrook Flea Market and Antique Mall.  We are booth #62 on the far left wall.

When you see this picture, is there a particular theme song that comes to mind?  "Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed".  All we were missing was a white haired lady in a rocker (Oh, and the whole striking oil part)!  Leah drove this home like a BOSS!  Eight 15 foot church pews, 1 bedroom suit, 1 hutch, 1 plate rack hutch, 3 rocking chairs, 4 oak dining room chairs, 4 antique mirrors, 1 "oops I bid on the wrong thing" chair, 1 vintage metal school desk, 2 plant stands, 5 small "fixer upper" tables, 1 pigeon crate, 1 candle stand, 1 antique sewing machine stand, 1 metal rack, 1 wooden ladder, antique tins, vintage glassware, "Lilly" the milk glass chicken, 1 "oopsie tea kettle", and much more!  We learned many lessons on our first road trip and we can't wait until the next one!  Who's in?

I LOVE.....A Shopping Frenzy with Mom

I-Love.jpg

It is SO hard for me to focus on writing this morning!  I was all set and ready to go.  I got a good six hours of sleep last night and popped up at 6am refreshed and mentally prepared to start this fun post.  Then it happened.  For some unknown reason my "big fat dreamer" brain kicked in.  Y'all it is BURSTING in overdrive!  (Leah is reading this and saying "Oh no what now")  I have written 3 pages of a new idea for The Le Rae Life and I had to make myself stop.  There are 2 things I HAVE to get done today.  One, this blog post and the other is CLEAN my house.  If KC is going to be building a barn everyday, he's got to be able to come home to a restful environment.  Right?  There is nothing restful about this house right now!  So, once this post goes live, pray that I can stay focused on my house and not that little notebook of dreams.  At least for a few hours. ;)

For as long as I can remember, I have loved a yard sale.  I mean literally since elementary school.  But, I couldn't just simply say "I love yard sales".  This infatuation goes far beyond the early Saturday morning treasure hunts.  It is from something rooted deep inside my DNA, from both sides of my family.  It is the love of a good deal.  My Grandma Sprenger (my Dad's mom) was a freak over a yard sale.  My brother, Bert, is the same way.  He lives in Arizona and loves calling home to brag about his Goodwill finds.  And then, there's my mom.  I can't think of anything more fun and more hilarious than a shopping frenzy with my mom.  The best are the ones that get way out of control.  In order for it to be classified as a "shopping frenzy", it has to have that moment.  It's the moment during the insanity where we both stop, look at each, and then burst into hysterical laughter.  Not just girly giggles.  I'm talking about "tears running down your face, legs crossed you're about to wet your pants" kind of laughter.  This is brought on by the sheer fact that at that very moment we have both realized how ridiculous we are.  Unfortunately for our hubbies, this happens far too often.  But, we love every minute of it.

This picture proves 2 things I have told y'all.  1.)It's in our DNA.  Both of my boys, have no problem getting up at 5 or 6 am for a yard sale trip.  2.)  Hunter just goes with the flow.  The last trip he had to ride home like this.  He never complained!

If you look closely, you can see that mom bought a "for sale" sign.  How ironic!

Like I said, many of our friends have the disease.  This is one of the many frenzies I have shared with Leah!

Leah found this gem in a local flea market.  We painted it bronze for a wedding last year and used it for the food table.

Then in February, we painted it again and repurposed it for a floral chandelier.

From yard sales, to flea markets, to estate sales, we can't get enough of finding that great deal.  I think it is physically (or mentally) impossible to give one up.  The inability to give up a deal reminds me of our shoe shopping craze about 2 years ago.  EPIC!  Mom had gotten a 30% off coupon to Kohls and wanted me to go with her, of course.  This coupon was not a one time offer.  It was over a period of time.  During this week or so, mom and I managed to purchase 96 pairs of shoes.  YES you read it correct, 96.  One of the trips to the cash register, we had that moment.  We were wheeling a buggy of shoes up to the front.  It was so full you literally could not see over the mountain of boxes.  (I sure do wish I had a picture of this!)  We looked at each other and howled!  I know the cashier thought we were nuts!  They were not all for us.  I think mom bought every woman she knows a pair of shoes.  But we're talking Nike tennis shoes for $5 or $6.  How could you not buy them?!  See.  Do you see what just happened?  That's how the frenzy starts.  How could you not buy them?

Our latest pickin' adventure/shopping frenzy has been the biggest yet.  We have managed to buy 6 trailor loads of furniture and equipment from an abandoned hotel and there is LOADS more.  Our "frenzy" rationale; how can you not buy it at that price?

I totally get that none of this is sound advice.  And it may be the exact opposite.  But, I just love it.  It is a total adrenaline rush.  Mom says "Samford and Sons ain't got nothing on this mother and daughter duo".  LOL!

Don't laugh at my pictures!  I have never claimed to be a photographer!

Today, I am adding a great yard sale find.  It is part of silverplated bar tool set (don't worry the other pieces will be added on the 10th).  Want to know what mom paid for these?  FIFTEEN CENTS a piece!  You gotta love a good deal!

Pickin' Adventures

I know, I know it's been a while!  So SORRY!  Leah and I have been super busy!  (YAY!)  Between designing weddings, building a barn, fabulous pickin' trips, and TOP secret projects, I have lost track of time.  I realized yesterday it had been way too long since my last blog post and wondered why in the world I hadn't talked about the amazing purchases we've made lately.  This shopping frenzy started about 2 weeks ago.  Leah and I went to Luverne to finally get the twin to one of our awesome mirrors that she spotted months ago.  We were thrilled to see it was still there and of course we found a few other items we "needed".

The next day, mom, my sister in law Sara, Leah, and I decided to wake up at the crack of dawn, head to Montgomery, and hit up as many yard sales as possible.  IT POURED!!  Not like a little sprinkle of rain but FLOODED!  We didn't let the downpour stop us.  We still managed to fill mom's catering van FULL of precious junk.  Scores for the day included a miniature white wicker doll set to put in our booth at Eastbrook, an adorable $2 wooden cake plate, antique drawers, and a great wooden rocker.

As if we didn't collect enough goodies that weekend, the following Monday Leah spotted an old house barn near her home that was about to be torn down.  We couldn't let that happen without getting our hands on what was sure to be treasure.  She made some calls and got permission.  So, that afternoon we talked our hubbies into going on a little hunt (they were thrilled).  We found some great drawers, an AWESOME barn door, vintage table legs, and plenty of chippy paint wood pieces.

Leah finished the frenzy this past week on a couple of solo trips.  On Mother's Day, she managed to find an abandoned house in Union Springs to plunder through.

 CUTE LITTLE TABLE

For me, the BIGGEST score of them all came from Leah's estate sale trip on Monday!  Two matching chairs.  I am IN LOVE with these.  Sorry folks!  You won't find these for sale at our booth.  You can count on seeing them in upcoming weddings (of course not as regular chairs!  ;)

LOOK AT THE DETAIL Y'ALL!!!  I CAN'T TAKE IT!

DRUMROLL please.........I did promise to let you in on a big purchase we made.  We are now the proud owners of 8 GORGEOUS antique church pews!  Thanks to my sweet dad and his friend Michael they are waiting for us to go get them in Florence.  Leah and I decided LeRae needed a roadtrip (great blog post for later) and we could "pick" all the way from Alabama to South Carolina!  Sounds like another frenzy!

Can't you just see these down by the pond at Pisgah Hill?!  Ohhhh boy I can't wait!
