DIY December : German Chocolate Pie

Do you get inspired to go the extra mile in the month of December?  And by that, I mean doing things out of the ordinary or things you usually wouldn't make time for.  I do.  Around this time every year, I get the urge to have everyone I know over for dinner, to organize my entire house and life (totally not the norm), bake every recipe in my box, and the list goes on.  I haven't even mentioned the decorating frenzy.  Last year we had 5 Christmas trees.  Yeah, I know I can go a little overboard.  But so far, not this year.  This year feels different.  There is not one single decoration up at my house.  I have to admit, I can't get motivated.  I think it's kind of weird - someone who "decorates" for a living can't get excited to decorate their own house.  This has got to change!  To encourage myself to get on the ball, I decided to share some of my Christmas and year end projects with y'all!  Hopefully, sharing it with all of you will give me that extra little spark I need!

Can you smell it?

Can you smell it?

To start off my DIY December, I am sharing my FAVORITE pie recipe.  My mom cooks these once a year.....Thanksgiving.  Because the family restaurant is open that day, we eat our Thanksgiving dinner at Red's at 2pm.  It's become a tradition and we do it every year.  Mom knows her German Chocolate Pie is an absolute must.  I make sure we have one at our table (even if that means I hide one until 2 o'clock).  ;)

It is a super, simple recipe that would be great for any holiday party or make a great gift!

German Chocolate Pie:

This recipe makes 2 pies.

Combine 4 eggs, 2 cups of sugar, 2 Tablespoons self rising flour, 2 Tablespoons cocoa, 1 stick of melted oleo, 6 oz. evaporated milk, 1 cup flaked coconut, and 1 cup of chopped pecans.

Every time you add an ingredient stir some more.  Stir and pour into 2 uncooked regular pie shells.  Bake at 350 degrees until firm.

ENJOY!  Come back and let me know how it turns out or better yet call me and I will come sample it with you!
